D.Mae Clothing - Wear More Art

Another Year Down!!!!

this year has been great to me. i made deeper connections with friends, reconnected with a few i’d become distant with,DMae became an official business, i was accepted as a cargoh seller, the DMae blog launched, i’ve met new people, and began to focus on the things that really matter to me. this past year was stress, laughter, forgiveness, acceptance, and so much more it’d take more than one post to get it all down. i’m happy to have gone through it all and to have a better understanding of who i am and know that i am stronger for it.

christmas was spent with extended family and this new years eve was more of the same. i was able to watch the fireworks not far from the ben franklin bridge, on a roof top with friends. we all stood there counting down the seconds and i was so happy to in that very moment. this is something i’m learning is a good thing be able to truly appreciate where you are right now, because you’re there for a reason. you may need to slow down, and learn a thing or two, and there’s nothing at all wrong with that.

in that moment i was looking up at the sky, being grateful, and in the arms of someone who is beyond amazing. and i cannot to wait to see what this new years brings to the table for us all. not to mention the things i’ve been cooking up for you guys/gals!!

let’s not let 2012 pass us by, let’s make great choices, move on  and up, and become who we all know we’re to be. it may be late, but, happy new year to you all. thank you all so much for your support and kind words.

Here’s hopping that you’re spent the day with your favorite people,I know I did. Although I was not able to see everyone today I am grateful to have been able to see those that I could. And there’s always new year’s to catch up.

Guest Post:: A Taste of Australia This Christmas

Hi my name is Samantha I am from blog Clumsy Mee, I am so excited to do a guest post for Naimah today. Seeing as it is getting so close to Christmas I thought I would let you know a few things about what happens in my family for Christmas. I can remember from when I was very young I have had Christmas in my veins I am big on Christmas I love wrapping presents putting up decorations of course I love unwrapping presents that are for me. Pretty much anything to do with Christmas I am there, even some Christmas carols make it into my iPod for the weeks leading up to Christmas. As I am in Australia we have our Christmas in the middle of summer which makes it a very hot day.

We still have Christmas carols and a big tree covered in decorations. There is no snow or log fire, it’s usually celebrated with a big family lunch on the bbq in the backyard or at the beach. Every family has different traditions but most of them include spending the day with the ones you love. Champagne instead of eggnog, Pavlova instead of plum pudding. But the most important thing is to spend it with family and friends. This year I am going to my boyfriend’s place for Christmas. His family is from a property about 10 hours’ drive from where we live.

Because it is west it will be so hot which I am not looking forward to but I am looking forward to spread of food that his mum will be putting on. I am contributing by making a bunch of Christmas cookie and cupcakes; also we have been roped into bringing the prawns for morning tea. What is your Christmas’s like? What traditions does your family have?

Xx Love Samantha

i am a sucker for a lovely melody and an artists ability show emotion through their voice. at 1:14 i can’t pay attetion to anything but this video and the movement, and at 2:42 i teared up just as Gary Lightbody did.

dance is full of passion, and need, add that to the overwhelming music and this video is perfection. i watched it 6 times in the first sitting and have decided that i MUST order Fallen Empires asap. the lyrics to the song hit home for me. at one point in my life i had no hope, there wasn’t anything keeping me grounded. i spent alot of time being wreckless and the outcome of the choices i’d made was the last thing on my mind. and this song is a reminder that you’re more than the most horrible thought you’ve had about yourself.

“This isn’t everything you are.”

i got stung!

this is kaelah, or kaelahbee. she is the wonderful lifestyle blogger behind Little Chief Honeybee, and has just recently opened her mobile storefront and accompanying online store Honeybean Boutique.i’ve been an avid reader of her bog over the past few months, and have really enjoyed seeing her business expand, how she interacts with her readers, and her brand of awesome show through in each post. she and i have talked via tumblr a few times, and she’s just a great gal.

a few weeks ago she released an e-book on PR & Marketing for bloggers and the title says it all. she’d been hinting that she was releasing an e book for a little while and i was so happy to read her post about it’s release. as soon as i was through reading it i made a purchase and read it front to back within that same night. pr is something i study briefly(but hope to finish my degree in just that) when i was in college. it’s something that i know of, but in terms of blogging it never hurts to learn a bit more.

if you’re a beginner hoping to make your own way in blogging, want to learn a new way of going about things, or want some structure THIS IS THE EBOOK TO GET. i’ve seen other courses offered on this, and other e books with a similar message, but if you’re looking for a personal point of view and want something that helps you as someone just starting out and/or over again(me) please take a look at this helpful ebook.

while i cannot tell you what’s in it i can let you know that i am now reading it for the third time and taking notes, i’ve emailed a few friends about it, and think it’d make a fabulous gift. it’s helped me look at things from the outside, to see that the way you present and handle yourself behind the scenes is equally important, and more.

so, thank you kaelah for putting your time, effort, and heart into this. i hope at some point you are able to expand this into a class of some sort, because it’s that great. it’s really helped me think about what it is to blog, and helping me open up to my readers. this ebook was spot on, just awesome!! thank you so so much!!

p.s. kaelah is playing santa over at LCH and giving away an ipad 2!!

when i first played with the idea of making DMae a full-time business i became obsessed with having a dress-form thinking that i wouldn’t be able to find a model on such short notice. i’d spotted one in the window of a local thrift store that had closed recently and did all i could to try to contact the owner. i’d seen that a lot of the fixtures were being thrown out, and want to offer to pay to have the form i’d seen.

after weeks of searching, leaving messages, and almost buying a pair of inflatable forms from amazon, i had a bright idea to ask a friend(asking for help has always been hard for me…one of m resolutions is to ask for help) if i could barrow her for the day. the pictures you see now are the result of my spending the afternoon with my best friend, listening to pandora, and having a great time.

just a few days ago i was watching a few craft tutorials on youtube and to my surprise there are tutorials out there for dress forms! why hadn’t i thought of this before?!?! i sometimes let myself have a one track mind about things once i’ve found one way of doing something. good thing i’ve decided that being flexible and going with options c through z aren’t the end of the world. all i had to do all along was to get out of my own way, simple!

above is one of the best tutorials on youtube, you can find another here by threadbanger. both seem like a great way to go! i’ll be trying this out in the new year for sure!!

what have you discovered this weekend? what are your favorite youtube tutorials?

Fancy That….a few out-of-the-box gift ideas

it’s been a LONG while since i’ve done a feature post,i’m going to start beinging this one back! it is, after all, the holiday season so why not give you a few gift ideas?!

the reclaimed stiletto planter by giddyspinster is for the anti-Martha Stewart, and a use for the gal who’s given up her favorite heels. for some of us heels aren’t an option (read-bad ankle) so why not keep some you’d love to attempt to wear one day nearby where you can admire them having a second life?

my description wasn’t as clever so here’s it is from it’s creator dippylulu : “When Bumblebore accidentally casts a spell of noxious vapours, or when Vol-au-Vent tries to overwhelm Harold with the fog of confusion, a simple counter-spell is enough to save the day. But for those of us less versed in the magical arts, we need a simpler means to cover our indiscretions. These Harold Potty Lites will do the job with almost-magical efficiency, and in splendid style”

the black and white artwork of Frederik Garcia are perfect for the printmaking minimalist in your life. it’s taken me years to branch out and begin using colors, because i love the contrast of black and white so much. i am loving this line!

i don’t have and iphone, i’m a droid gal. if i did i’d buy it a forrest WOODi by woodwerx and it’d be the manliest of all iphone’s. this is like a bachelor pad for technology!

a few things i love? being able to hold a hot cup of tea without burning my hands, and a great pillow with a case that will remind me of a youtube video that keeps me laughing for days. sewtara has done a fab job with these two items.

this is a quote from Christopher Robin of Winnie the Pooh that lulubugjewelry has turned into this darling necklace that i MUST own! i’ve been a fan of WTP fo ras ling as i can remember, and one day met the voice of Christopher Robin while at the movies. TRUE STORY.

i hope you enjoyed these gift ideas. keep an eye out for more Fancy Tht post in the future!
